DepEd launches search for Happiest Pinoy

MANILA, Philippines – Out of millions of Filipinos, who will be the next Happiest Pinoy? The Department of Education (DepEd) has launched the search for one such person, for whom a prize money of P250, 000 awaits.

The contest aims to promote a "Wear a Smile Campaign" because DepEd wants everybody to be happy and optimistic amid the global economic downturn. For a start, teachers are encouraged to wear a smile on the opening of classes on June 4.

The contest is open to all Filipinos of legal age, group or organizations registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Nominations are open until July 31, 2012.

On the panel of judges are DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro, 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida and former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri. The search for the Happiest Pinoy started in 2009-2010.

The first winner was Winston Maxino, a corporate executive. More information is found on the official website http://www.happiest-pinoy.com/index.aspx.
