CLFI opens first Community Learning Center in Pasig

Last July 14, Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation Inc. (CLFI) unveiled the first DepEd-Cebuana Lhuillier Community Learning Center at Nagpayong Elementary School in Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City, kicking off a series of nationwide launches.

CLFI, in partnership with the Department of Education, is boosting DepEd’s nationwide Alternative Learning System (ALS) program by providing out-of-school youth and adults a second chance at attaining a high school diploma. CLFI will provide computer sets, teaching equipment, and other learning materials for 16 Community Learning Centers across the country.

“The Alternative Learning System is the means to realize the goals which are academics, livelihood, and spiritual or social enhancement,” said Atty. Cesar Vidal, CLFI Executive Trustee.

Also present during the event were OIC of the Office of the Assistant Regional Director of DepEd NCR Dr. Ponciano Menguito, Region 1 Manager Felix Contapay, and Head of Pawnshop Operations Miko Jimenez, who emphasized how education, through the ALS, can transform lives.

CLMI partners with 1GANAP to provide insurance for volunteer peacekeepers

In an effort to reach out to various groups and sectors in the society, Cebuana Lhuillier Microinsurance (CLMI) formed a partnership with 1 GUARDIANS Nationalist of the Philippines (1GANAP) through a Memorandum of Agreement Signing held recently in Makati City.

1GANAP is an organization composed of both active and retired military personnel who aims to promote the values of brotherhood and unity. They also act as community volunteers during calamities and natural disasters. Because of this, they are one of the first groups to be tapped by the government when it comes to providing assistance to people in need.

1GANAP is one of the first groups to benefit from TanodCARE, CLMI’s group insurance specially designed for community peacekeepers and volunteers. For only P125, its members can get at least P50,000 coverage for accidental death, unprovoked murder and assault, permanent total disability, and even medical reimbursement valid for one year.  Extended reach also includes the insured’s relatives and constituents.

“Thanks to the efforts of Cebuana Lhuillier Area Manager Adrian Bernados and his team, members of 1GANAP will be insured by TanodCARE so they can continue to aid and protect the people without worrying about their own safety. We acknowledge that the organization go through great lengths in protecting the people, so CLMI will ensure that they will get the same treatment as well,” said CLMI General Manager Jonathan Batangan.

According to Batangan, the Philippines is one of the leading countries in microinsurance globally. However, only 23% of the population in the Philippines is insured. With natural disasters and calamities becoming a regular occurrence in the country, the government sees the need for microinsurance.

Through the introduction of TanodCARE and other group insurance products, Cebuana Lhuillier aims to educate the people on the concept of microinsurance and its importance, with plans to develop more insurance products to suit each and every Filipino.

CLIS visits fire survivors in Quezon City Kumustahan

Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Inc. (CLIS), the leading microinsurance provider in the country, staged another “Kumustahan” event on June 24 for Alagang Cebuana Plus (ACP) beneficiaries of Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.

“Kumustahan” is a way of thanking CLIS clients for patronizing the company’s wide array of microinsurance products by visiting the claimants and awarding them with cash and tokens. Every year, CLIS conducts nationwide “Kumustahan” for ACP claimants to give due recognition to loyal Ka-Cebuanas and invite them to join the company in its campaign of increasing microinsurance awareness among the low-income and vulnerable sectors.

On May 6, 2014, at least 50 houses in Barangay Holy Spirit were razed by fire and left at least 100 families homeless and some residents injured. Among those who were affected were the 10 ACP claimants awarded by CLIS with cash and Cebuana Lhuillier giveaways.

Lydia Ballesteros, kagawad of Barangay Holy Spirit, expressed her gratitude to CLIS for helping her constituents in times of unfortunate incidents like fire.

Also present on the event were Barangay Holy Spirit Administration Head Jomar Lagarto, and Sports and Development Head Roberto Hernandez.

The earlier “Kumustahans” were held in Piapi, Davao and Lorega, Cebu City where major community conflagrations also took place.

Cebuana Lhuillier partners with China Bank Savings for easier domestic money remittance

Cebuana Lhuillier, the country’s premier microfinancial company, has partnered with China Bank Savings (CBS) to provide Filipinos with more avenues for easier domestic money remittance.

China Bank Savings recently launched its “Easi-Padala” services, wherein CBS account holders can send money through any CBS branch. The remittance can then be claimed in any of Cebuana Lhuillier’s more than 1,700 branches all over the Philippines.

“We are very happy to be part of this exciting new venture with China Bank Savings. Through this new partnership, more Filipinos in the provinces can easily receive money from their relatives who are based in Metro Manila.

“Working with our trusted partners such as China Bank Savings enables us to empower Filipinos in the provinces so that they can enjoy the same financial services as those in the cities,” said Cebuana Lhuillier Services Corporation General Manager Noel Cristal.

This remittance partnership complements Cebuana Lhuillier’s own money remittance service.

CLFI joins Brigada Eskwela kick off in Tarlac

In preparation for School Year 2014-15, Cebuana Lhuillier participated in the Brigada Eskwela kick off organized by San Manuel High School (SMHS) in Tarlac City on May 19.

Emphasizing the value of working together, the school, headed by principal Mr. Wilfredo Paras, gathered volunteer faculty, students, parents, and representatives from local government units and private sectors for the week-long cleaning and refurbishment of the school campus.

Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. (CLFI) as one of the school’s stakeholders, took charge of repainting the wall of the “Ang Galing Mo Bata!” (AGMB) ICT Laboratory and the repair of defective computer units.

Before the volunteers started with their respective tasks, CLFI took the opportunity to recognize senior students of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Education Program by awarding them with certificates. Meanwhile, top ICT students also received medals awarded by CLFI Executive Trustee Atty. Cesar Vidal.

SMHS has been a partner of CLFI in the ICT Education Program for junior and senior high school students since 2006. The partnership continues to flourish as the school has been chosen as one of the sites for the DepEd- Cebuana Lhuillier Community Learning Centers. Using the facilities of the existing AGMB ICT laboratory, it will be formally launched soon as an E-eskwela learning facility. Atty. Vidal took the opportunity to invite potential students who want to enroll in the said DepEd – Cebuana Lhuillier ALS Community Learning Center, which is intended for out-of-school youth and adults.

Cebuana Lhuillier MicroInsurance opens its doors to Mindanao

Continuing its program to reach out to more people all over the country, the country’s leading  microinsurance agency  opens its doors to bring to the people in Mindanao its affordable and innovative insurance products.

Cebuana Lhuillier MicroInsurance (CLMI), the micro insurance arm of Cebuana Lhuillier, recently opened its regional office in Davao City, the first in Mindanao, as part of its efforts to expand its reach to more people outside its branches.

“We are happy that we officially have set a base in Davao City. This establishes our foothold in Mindanao, and allows us to bring closer to the people the importance of getting insurance, and the affordable ways to do so,” says Cebuana Lhuillier Micro Insurance General Manager Jonathan Batangan.

The new CLMI office is located within the regional office of Cebuana Lhuillier in Ladislawa Garden Village in Buhangin, Davao City.

“We would like to bring into the people’s awareness, particularly those who are in the financially-challenged and vulnerable sector, that insurance need not make a big dent on one’s budget. We also need to educate the people about the necessity of being ready always, of having the contingency in case something comes up. This CLMI initiative also complements the government’s program to promote social protection and financial inclusion”, Batangan added.

Its flagship product, called Alagang Cebuana Plus (ACP), offers affordable personal accident  coverage for only P25. Those who avail ACP are assured of a P20,000 accidental death, dismemberment and disablement coverage and P5,000 fire-cash assistance, valid for four months.

ACP also offers free medical consultation through a dedicated hotline to its customers. It also boasts also of a 24-hour claims settling facility backed up by Cebuana Lhuillier’s Pera Padala.  Insurance claims can be filed and are paid out in any of Cebuana Lhuillier’s close to 2,000 branches nationwide.  Selling at more than one million certificates per month, it is arguably the most successful micro insurance product in the country today, having paid out more than P80 million claims.

Aside from ACP, Cebuana Lhuillier also offers various affordable insurance products that provide coverage against liabilities from motor vehicle accidents, as well as specialized insurance packages for security guards, students, employees, barangay tanods, and drivers of public utility vehicles.
