CLIS makes Christmas merry for Barangay Pinyahan, QC

December 20, 2011 – To Mr. and Mrs. Sammy and Janet Caingoy, there is still something to look forward to this Christmas despite their recent ordeal as Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions (CLIS) granted them P25,000.00 worth of fire claims. A total of P275,000.00 Alagang Cebuana Plus (ACP) cash assistance was released to the fire victims from Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City.

Mr. Teddy Tierra, another resident, recounted how he woke up at around 1:00 am of November 20, 2011, to find the abandoned residence just steps across his home was being consumed by fire. He said the blaze had broken out too rapidly that he was not able to save even one of his possessions. Reports later said that the fire was caused by a neglected candle in the abandoned house which was frequently used as a hangout by groups of teenagers. The tragedy resulted to five casualties and destroyed around 500 homes, leaving 1,500 families homeless—weeks before Christmas day.

Parañaque City Experiences Alagang Cebuana Plus

November 29, 2011 – Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions (CLIS) awarded P167,000.00 worth of Alangang Cebuana Plus (ACP) cash fire assistance to the fire victims from Barangay Sto. Niño, Parañaque City.

The four-hour fire started around 11:00 pm of September 22, 2011, destroying houses and leaving 300 families homeless. The blaze was said to be difficult to put out due to the narrow streets leading to the compound, said Parañaque City’s fire marshal.

Meanwhile, Cebuana Lhuillier branch operations manager Airen Romar and vault custodian Theresa Malinban of CLH Moonwalk 2 received the ACP “May Malasakit” Award from CLIS to recognize their efforts in fulfilling the 2-day Claims Bayad Agad to help the residents of Brgy. Sto Niño.

December 7, 2011 – Pera Padala scammers’ and fraudsters’ days are numbered. Cebuana Lhuillier, the country’s largest pawnshop chain, recently partnered with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to stamp-out scams made through remittance transactions.

Cebuana Lhuillier execs met with PNP Director General Nicanor Bartolome to coordinate with the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in devising a plan to apprehend remittance scammers who use Cebuana Lhuillier as their cash transfer venue.

"Our clients work hard to provide for their families. Cebuana Lhuillier will not rest until these scammers have been apprehended by the proper authorities. We will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of our valued clients’ hard-earned cash," said Jean Henri Lhuillier, president and chief executive officer of PJ Lhuillier, Inc.

The PNP chief promised to continuously coordinate with Cebauna Lhuillier through the CIDG until the number of remittance scam occurrences significantly decreases. A specific CIDG group will be assigned to take care of the investigations.

"At Cebuana Lhuillier, we constantly remind our clients to be wary of the receiver of the money they send," says Ferdinand Bacungan, Cebuana Lhuillier Services Corporation general manager. "OFWs are the usual victims of scams done through text, email, or social media websites like Facebook."
